Jonathan Castillo (he/him) joined UBC as the Minister of Music and Outreach in 2018. In his time, he has lead the music ministry in two masterwork choral performances, virtual choral offerings, and assisted in the creation of our Livestream ministry on YouTube. Jonathan is a passionate church musician, having served as pianist, organist, and assistant music director for churches in Austin, Round Rock, and Waco. As a pianist, he has a diverse education in style and genre and has performed in cabaret-style shows, with major theater companies, and served as a collaborative pianist for solo and chamber music in both vocal and instrumental capacities. As a bassoonist, Jonathan is an active member of the musical community in Central Texas, and is currently the principal bassoonist for the Mid-Texas Symphony and second bassoonist in the Shreveport Symphony. In his free time, you can find him coaching indoor cycling classes, riding his bike out on the road, or backpacking. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from Baylor University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He studied the organ with Dr. Joyce Jones.
